Well-Being Australia was established by Heads of Churches in NSW as a ministry on 6 March 2000. It is a continuation of Mark and Delma Tronson’s mission being founders and leaders of the Sports and Leisure Ministry from 1982. Through this vehicle they placed Chaplains across Australia's Professional Sports and established an athlete respite facility in Moruya on the NSW south coast. This has been utilised by the Australian Institute of Sport over many years. A national board for Well-Being Australia was selected to care for Mark and Delma Tronson after the tribulations of the national and international multi-faceted ministry which had left them partially ‘burnt out’ and lacking the energy to continue in their previous commitments. Mark and Delma retained the Australian Cricket and Athlete Respite Ministries and were able to move into new and fresh ministry areas as they recuperated. Following 14 years living in Moruya, in December 2005 Mark and Delma relocated to Tweed Heads to replicate the Respite ministry (SE Qld AIS), then in 2011 expanded again to Laguna Quays to provide respite for Church and missionary personnel. Since 2000 Mark and Delma have developed ministries in Art, Tourism R&D, ‘Life After Cricket’ (for retired cricketers and their families), the ‘Footplate Padre’, ‘Press Service International’, International collaborations, ‘Australian Missionary News IPTV’, ‘Country Town Tours’ (mentoring rural youth), ‘Around the Tables’ (discussions for missionary personnel), a young writers program and various Community benevolent ministry ventures. All functions integrate a gracious, dedicated and sacrificial team of volunteers, and each ministry has a succession plan to protect the future. To help explain the role of the Public Officer of Well-Being Australia Inc., operating in Australia (ATO and the ACNC) and in NSW under the Associations Incorporations Act. he writes as follows: Dr Mark Tronson asked me for a note on his role as Public Officer of Well-Being Australia Inc., and the ministry that falls within WBA's orbit, Press Service International (PSI) for the young writers. Mark informed me that when he undertook an ATO audit for his ministries it was explained to him that as the Public Officer he was responsible to both the ATO and the NSW Dept of Fair Trading (and now the newly established Australian Charities and Not-For Profit Commission) for the financial affairs of WBA being in order, and for the general good order of the organisation. He should allow nothing to be approved if it in any way places the organisation in jeopardy or threatens himself, his family or his assets. He informed me that that is how these statutory bodies function. That accords with my independent knowledge also. As Mark is responsible, he should not allow anything untoward to happen during his watch as described above. As regards what to do and what not to do, I have said to many clients over my 32 years in law - if in doubt don’t. I understand the structure of publishing in our situation to be as follows. Christian Today Australia is the publisher, CMCi owns Christian Today Australia, and their editor for Christian Today Australia is Natalie Chu, (who spoke at our 2014 conference). PSI submits articles to Natalie Chu for publishing in Christian Today Australia. To ensure articles are approved by Christian Today Australia - the articles eventually come to Sophia Sinclair the PSI chief editor. Sophia sends those articles to Christian Today Australia (Natalie Chu) and to Mark. Even with all this, sometimes Natalie sends an article back which is not acceptable for publishing in Christian Today Australia. This happens occasionally. Now to some practical issues. DEFAMATION: A LIMITATION TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION Written defamation is the publication of a false statement damaging to a person’s reputation. A Christian should never be guilty of this whether one’s writing alleges falsehood, is speculative, presumes guilt, or otherwise. As a good name is “more desirable than great riches” (NIV Prov 22:1) and is "better than fine perfume” (Eccles 7:1), the internet must never be used such that our article causes someone damage, even if it is unintentional. Is it any wonder that God warns us to be “very” careful “how” we live? (Eph 5:1) which obviously includes how or what we write. Therefore we must not only look out for our own interests, but also for the interests of others (Phil 2:4). Dr Tronson as Public Officer for Well-Being Australia Inc., is the final arbiter of PSI and the facilitator for our articles being published internationally under the CHRISTIAN TODAY AUSTRALIA banner. Even though Christian Today Australia is the publisher, any such article that slips through the system or internal written conversations, exposes him to criticism (and perhaps much worse, financially) if our article strikes the wrong chord somewhere. As “Christ’s ambassadors” in the world "as though God were making His appeal through us”, we need to be careful and responsible writers. A five centimetre tongue must not be used to flatten a 185 centimetre man. Rather, our tongue must be the “pen of a skillful writer”. (Ps 45:1) Gavin Lawrie Well-Being Australia Administration Current Board members are: Shirlene Bennett, Sydney (financial); Vic Matthews, Moruya (Secretary); Matt Boyes (Moruya); Peter Nelson, Canberra (AIS Chaplain), Delma Tronson (Tweed Heads), and Russell Modlin (Sunshine Coast) of the young writers program.
